Phoenix Police Cadet Scholarships

 906 Foundation’s mission is to build trust and unity between law enforcement and the community through education, outreach, and compassionate giving to those we serve. 

 Scholarship & Eligibility:

This merit-based scholarship consists of (2) $1,000 scholarships.  Awarded ($500) per semester  

It is only open to Phoenix Police Cadets.  

Applicants must meet or exceed Phoenix Police Cadet policy and be graduates of the cadet academy.

High school seniors and those attending college or university are encouraged to apply. 

This is a multi-year scholarship, once awarded you need not reapply in future years if still meeting academic and full-time student status.  Each school year will require official transcripts to prove academic eligibility (3.0 GPA) and full-time status to meet minimum requirements plus enrollment verification form provided to the 906 Founation between semesters.

The applicant must be pursuing a career with the intent of future employment in a law enforcement/first responder area but is not required to be enrolled in a criminal justice degree program. The applicant must have a maintain 3.0 GPA which must be verified through official high school/college transcripts.

In addition to the application, a resume and a 300-word essay must be submitted.

Application Process

Cadets not following the application process and/or submitting incomplete information will not be considered for the scholarship.

Complete the application and recommendation from the Post Lead Advisor. Attach a current resume and official high school/college transcripts.

Submit a 300-word essay on the topic:

Deadline: The original application must be submitted with all required support material and received no later than May 1st during business hours (M-F, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM).                                                                                                                                                                               

906 Foundation Scholarships

If you’re an active PLEA member of Unit 4, then you can press the button below to login to the members only website and send a scholarship invitation to your son or daughter. They can then login and fill out the scholarship application.

Program Purpose

The Scholarship Program supports eligible students who are children/dependents of eligible members by providing financial assistance for post-secondary education or approved trade/vocational programs. 

Award Amounts and Number of Scholarships

  • The program will award up to ten (10) scholarships each cycle.
  • Each scholarship will be $3,000.
  • Scholarships are not guaranteed; awards depend on the number and quality of eligible applications received.

Selection Process

  • A Scholarship Committee will review eligible applications and select recipients based on overall merit, including academics, leadership, community involvement, recommendations, and essay quality.
  • The committee may decline to award scholarships if there are insufficient qualified applicants.

Conflicts of Interest

  • Any committee member with a personal connection to an applicant (including a child/dependent applicant) must disclose the conflict and abstain from discussion and voting related to that applicant.

Application Window and Notices

  • Applications will be accepted online during the posted application window (e.g., February 1 through April 1).
  • Recipients will be notified by email and may be recognized publicly (including posting recipient names/photos) subject to the recipient’s consent and program policy.

An applicant must meet all requirements below at the time of application:

Relationship to Member

 

    • Applicant must be the child or dependent of an eligible, ACTIVE UNIT 4, PLEA member.
    • The PLEA member must be in good standing for at least twelve consecutive months immediately prior to the application deadline.
    • The PLEA member must remain in good standing through the scholarship award year (from award notification through the end of the academic year/award period).

Age/Status

      • Applicant must be under age 24 at the time of application.
      • Applicant must be either:
        • a current high school senior, or
        • already accepted/enrolled in an eligible post-secondary program.

    Enrollment

      • Applicant must be enrolled (or plan to enroll) as a full-time student in:
        • an accredited college or university, or
        • an accredited/recognized trade or vocational program leading to a certificate or credential.
        • an undergraduate program

    Academic Standing

      • Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent).

    Continued Eligibility; Withdrawal; Reimbursement

      • Awardees must remain enrolled and in good standing to receive funds.
      • If an awardee withdraws from the program or becomes ineligible before funds are fully disbursed, the program may:
        • cancel remaining payments, and/or
        • require reimbursement of funds already paid, depending on circumstances.
      • If the PLEA member’s membership lapses or the member is not in good standing during the award year, the program may cancel any undistributed scholarship funds.

    3. Personal Essay (300–1,000 words) addressing the applicant’s background and goals, including:
        • family or personal background,
        • career goals and plan to achieve them,
        • community service/leadership, and
        • why the applicant deserves the scholarship
        • Work history, community service, activities, hobbies, and interests
    4. Two Letters of Recommendation
        • Letters must be from non-relatives (no immediate family members).
        • Letters should be from a teacher, coach, mentor, employer, counselor, clergy, or similar.

    *Incomplete applications may be disqualified.

    Permitted Uses of Scholarship Funds; Tax and Financial Aid Notice

      • Scholarship funds are intended for qualified education expenses, including tuition and fees, and required books, supplies, or equipment.
      • Funds used for room and board, travel, optional expenses, or non-education costs may be taxable.
      • Scholarship awards may need to be reported to the school and may affect financial aid eligibility or award amounts.
      • The program will provide awardees a brief written notice explaining these considerations.

    Method and Timing of Payment

      • Awards will be issued to the student (awardee).
      • The program may, in its discretion, issue the award in one payment or split by term/semester.
      • Awardees must provide proof of enrollment prior to disbursement.
